NEW YEAR (BIRTHDAY) RETREAT
May 28th is my birthday. Instead of my usual birthday brunch (where I make a bunch of waffles or crepes or whathaveyou, and then people bring toppings and we drink mamosas and bloody mary's all day) I decided to do a solo retreat this year that would include soaking in a heated salt water pool, drinking wine while reading and writing... basically planning this next year ahead of me. I really needed a fresh start after a rocky 3 months, so off I went to Edgefield with my basket of wine, coffee, books and paper, and cooler full of snacks.
Mamma sent me flowers so I brought them with me for my room. No tv's, no phones, just me and a bed and a big ass porch with a view....
Epic porch reading and writing times.... Was able to break my "insanely long list" habit into specific pages of Business/ House/ Personal with a horizontal list of specific areas that I need to work on and then "next actions" vertically beneath them. Something Like:
BUSINESS:
Advertising | Website | New Products | Incentives | Wholesale
(next actions list.. list... list... list...
list....)
When not reading and writing: Soaking in this pool and walking through these gardens...
I think this might be an annual ritual for me, probably pick a new spot next year.. Britenbush maybe? A birthday seems like the perfect time for self reflection, planning and focus. It's so valuable and necessary.. I mean, who doesn't need a fresh start?
